PITTSBURG — Missouri University of Science & Technology struck for 10 runs in the pivotal fifth inning as the visiting Miners handed the Pittsburg State University baseball team a 12-2 setback Wednesday (Mar. 16).
Pitt State (5-13) took a 2-1 lead to the top of the fifth, but MSU (11-5) capitalized on eight hits, two hit batters and a walk to plate 10 runs in the frame.
Luke Swindle went 2-for-4 with four RBI for the Miners, while Nick Ulrich went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Bryan Nolan (1-0) worked two scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win for MST.
Jacob Boylan drove in both Pitt State runs with an RBI single in the first and a sacrifice fly in the third.
The Gorillas will return to action Friday (Mar. 18) when they open a three-game MIAA series against Washburn University at Al Ortolani Field.
