Softball Sweeps Emporia State at Home

PITTSBURG -- After winning game one, 1-0, the Pitt State softball team exploded for nine runs in the fourth inning of game two to finished the doubleheader sweep with a 10-4 win over Emporia State on Friday (March 25) afternoon.

In game one, Gorilla pitcher Emmie Robertson struck out 12, while holding the Hornets to three hits to move to 14-4 on the season.

The Pitt State hitters scattered six hits, including two in the third inning when Jordan Bradshaw scored on a Nicole Nease base hit up the middle for the only run of the game.

In game two, Nicole Nease hit three home runs in consecutive at bats and recorded six RBI, including two home runs and five RBI in the fourth inning, to pace the Gorillas in their 10-4 win.

The Gorillas trailed Emporia State 2-0 going into the bottom of the fourth. The first three batters of the inning, Katy Remy, Nease and Kylie Guthier, each hit solo home runs to give the Gorillas the 3-2 lead. Alex Perez reached on a bunt single and Jenna Bolton followed with a walk. Catie Cummins knocked a double to the wall in left center to bring home Kris Van Hoosen, who was running for Perez. Jordan Bradshaw added a walk. Ashton Pratt reached on an error that allowed Bolton to score for a 5-2 lead with still no outs in the inning. Sierra Hall reached on a fielder's choice that put Cummins out at the plate. Remy popped up in her second at bat of the inning, but the bases were still loaded for Nease who hit her second home run of the inning, this time a grand slam for a 9-2 lead.

Emporia State got two runs back in the fifth, but in the sixth, Nease added her third home run of the game for the final 10-4 score.

Morgan Myers earned the win for Pitt State. She pitched the first four innings and gave up two runs. Zoe Price game in for an inning and gave up two runs, only one of which was earned. Robertson finished the game and struck out four of the final six batters.

Pitt State will face Washburn on Saturday (March 26). First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
