PITTSBURG — The Northeastern State University baseball team scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning to overcome a 6-4 defict and claim a 9-6 victory over Pittsburg State University Tuesday (Mar. 29).
The RiverHawks (15-12, 9-8 MIAA) handed the Gorillas (6-20, 1-16 MIAA) their sixth straight defeat.
Pitt State jumped out to a 6-1 lead against NSU thanks to a strong performance by starter George Brandecker. Brandecker allowed just four hits in six innings of work, fanning seven batters.
Jacob Boylan and Andrew Vogelbaugh each hit home runs to help stake the Gorillas to the early lead on the RiverHawks.
The RiverHawks got back into the contest with three runs in the seventh inning and the decisive five runs in the ninth off reliever Ryan McKay (1-2).
NSU won the game despite committing six errors in the field.
Pitt State will return to action Friday (Apr. 1) when the Gorillas open a three-game MIAA series at Maryville, Mo., against Northwest Missouri State University.
