BOLIVAR, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University baseball team jumped out to a quick lead and rolled to a 13-2 eight inning run-rule victory over Southwest Baptist University in the opening game of a three-game MIAA series Thursday (Apr. 21).
The Gorillas (12-27, 7-23 MIAA) claimed their third straight victory in taking the series opener against the Bearcats (17-23, 12-18 MIAA). The two teams will meet again Friday (Apr. 22) at 3 p.m.
Jacob Boylan went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI to lead the Pitt State offensive attack. Christian Arnold also went 3-for-5 with a double, home run and two RBI, while Cole Brecheisen and Andrew Vogelbaugh each went 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
Cooper Gardner (2-1) limited SBU to six hits over seven strong innings of work. He allowed two runs, one earned, walked two batters and stuck out five.
