BOLIVAR, Mo. — The Southwest Baptist University baseball team scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally from a 7-3 deficit and claim a 9-7 victory over Pittsburg State University Saturday (Apr. 23) at Dodson Field.

The Bearcats (19-23, 14-18 MIAA) took the best of three series from the Gorillas (12-29, 7-25 MIAA) two games to one.

Pitt State fell behind 3-0 to SBU in the first inning, but the Gorillas scored one or two runs in each inning between the second and the seventh frame to build a 7-3 lead.

Brett Macary and Jacob Boylan had two hits apiece. Boylan belted his eighth home run of the season, while Andrew Vogelbaugh also hit his team-leading 12th.

Derek Jacobs (0-1) took the loss allowing a pair of unearned runs in the pivotal eighth inning. Ty Rowe worked 6 1/3 innings of scoreless relief of starter Matt Standlee before giving up three runs on three hits to open the eighth.
