OKLAHOMA CITY -- Down 7-1 in the top of the seventh, the Pitt State softball team scored five runs, all with two outs, to cut Central Oklahoma's lead to 7-6, but came up just short of being able to advance to the MIAA Tournament Championship game.Â
The Gorillas will now have to wait until Monday morning to see if they will receive a bid for NCAA Regional play.Â
Jenna Bolton started the seventh with a double to left. Following the first out of the inning, Tiara Ewy dropped a base hit into short centerfield and advanced Bolton to third. Kris VanHoosen came in to run for Ewy at first. Ashton Pratt walked to load the bases. Sierra Hall dropped a bunt infront of the pitcher and reached first, but the Bronchos were able to throw out Bolton at home. Katy Remy stepped up and drove a double to right to clear the bases and make the score 7-4. Nicole Nease continued the rally with her 17th home run of the season to make the score 7-6. The last out of the inning lined out to left field to end the inning and the game.Â
Central Oklahoma scored four runs in the third, one in the fourth and two in the sixth for their seven runs.Â
Pitt State scored its first run in the sixth. Katy Remy started a two-out rally with a base hit to center. Nease added a base hit to left. Kylie Guthier hit the third consecutive base hit to left to bring Remy home.Â
Emmie Robertson pitched the first three innings for the Gorillas and gave up the first four runs of the game. She did not issue a walk, allowed seven hits and struck out four. She has recorded 301 strikeouts this season. Zoe Price replaced Robertson to start the fourth inning. She gave up three runs, only two earned, on five hits while striking out two.Â
Nease and Remy each had two hits for the Gorillas on the day. Remy scored two runs and recorded three RBI. Nease had a run and two RBI.Â
