ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Madison Northcutt posted her second double-double in as many games to lead the sixth-ranked Pittsburg State University women's basketball team to a 57-43 road win over Missouri Western State University Thursday (Jan. 5) at the MWSU Fieldhouse.

Northcutt, who posted career highs of 22 points and 16 rebounds in a 94-62 road win over Northwestern Oklahoma State University Tuesday, came through with 24 points and 15 rebounds against the Griffons.

Pitt State (13-1, 5-0 MIAA) used an 11-0 run to break open a 42-40 game with 7:03 to play in the fourth quarter. Western (11-3, 3-2 MIAA), which trailed 31-19 at halftime, opened the third quarter on a 13-1 run to fight back into the contest.

Northcutt converted eight of 12 field goals in the contest. As a team, Pitt State made just 19 of 48 attempts (.396), but the Gorillas limited the Griffons to 34.6 percent shooting in the contest (18-52).

Mikaela Burgess also scored in double figures with 10 points for the Gorillas. Hadyn Herlocker chipped in with six points and a game-high seven assists, while Paige Lungwitz added five points and nine rebounds.

Pitt State owned a 42-28 rebounding advantage against Western.

Sefulu Faavae scored a team-leading 15 points for the Griffons, while Melia Richardson added 11 points.

Pitt State will return to action Saturday (Jan. 7) when the Gorillas travel to Maryville, Mo., to face MIAA rival Northwest Missouri State University at 1 p.m. (CST) at Bearcat Arena.
