BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- The Pitt State softball team was shut out of the final day of the Arkansas-Monticello Classic in Bentonville on Saturday (Feb. 11). The Gorillas lost the first game of the day to host Arkansas-Monticello, 7-0, before falling to Harding, 3-0.
Against Arkansas-Monticello, the Gorillas had only four hits, while allowing 10 and committing three errors. Lawren McKinney had two of the team's four hits, including a double. Kaity Kukowski also added a hit and Myka Hayward also hit a double.Â
Morgan Myers started the game in the circle. She pitched four innings and gave up five runs, only two of which were earned. Bree Cornett and Brittany Beaudet each threw one inning. Beaudet gave up the final two runs, neither of which were earned.Â
Pitt State managed only three hits against Harding. Nicole Nease went 2-for-3, while Kylie Guthier was 1-for-3. Harding scored three runs on five hits and one Gorilla error.Â
Emmie Robertson threw 6.0 innings to take the loss. She gave up all five hits. Only one of the three runs was earned. She struck out three and walked one. Beaudet finished the game.Â
Pitt State will return to Bentonville next weekend for the Eight State Classic, also hosted by Arkansas-Monticello. The Gorillas will play six games over three days at Memorial Park beginning on Friday, Feb. 17.
