Gorillas Set to Make Home Debut Against UNK, FHSU

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University volleyball team will make its home debut this weekend with matches Friday and Saturday (Sept. 29-30).
 
The Gorillas will face No. 4 ranked University of Nebraska-Kearney Friday at 6 p.m. at John Lance Arena and wrap up the weekend action Saturday against Fort Hays State University at 6 p.m.
 
Scouting the Gorillas
Pitt State will bring a 3-12 overall mark and an 0-3 MIAA record into the weekend action. The Gorillas will seek to capture their first conference win of the season.
 
Junior rightside hitter Lauren Regier has compiled 164 kills (2.93 kps) with junior rightside hitter Noelle Dooley contributing 2.47 kills per set (126 kills).
 
Freshmen middle blocker Emily Regier has recorded 47 total blocks (0.85 bps) to lead the team. Sophomore defensive specialist Lauren Maisberger has added 212 digs (3.93 dps) on the season.  
 
The Opponents
UNK is currently 14-1 overal, 3-0 in the MIAA and ranked No. 4 in the most recent AVCA Top 25 poll. The Lopers will look to extend their 11-match winning streak in the match-up.
Senior middle blocker Tara Ziegelbein leads the offense with 3.28 kills per set and senior outside hitter Kaitlynn Thomas adds 3.23 kills per set. Junior defensive specialist Ellie McDonnell has averaged 4.60 digs per set with junior setter Lindsey Smith contributing 11.18 assists per set.
 
FHSU is 8-9 overall and 0-3 in the MIAA heading into a Friday road match against the University of Central Oklahoma.
Offensively, senior rightside hitter Kylie Rollman leads the Tigers with 2.77 kills per set followed with junior outside hitter Sydeny Dixon's 2.34 kills per set average. Redshirt freshmen defensive specialist Taylor White averages 4.62 digs per set.

Following the matches this weekend, Pitt State will return to the road Oct. 6-7 for road matches against Washburn University and Emporia State.
