Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROLLA, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Friday (Sept. 8) at the Missouri University of Science & Technology Middle of Everywhere Classic.

The Gorillas dropped a 3-0 decision to Ashland University (25-21, 20-25, 25-21, 25-19) and Pitt State fell to the host school, Missouri S&T, 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-21).

Against Ashland, the first set was a back and forth offensive battle with a pair of lead changes and five ties in the set. The Eagles eventually pulled away for the 25-21 due to Gorillas hitting errors.

Pitt State battled back in the second set to build a 17-13 lead and ultimately claim a 25-20 win.

Noelle Dooley led the offensive with six kills in the third set but it was not enough as Ashland claimed a 25-21 win. The Eagles jumped ahead early in the fourth set and road the early momentum to a 25-19 win to take the match.

In the final match of the day, the Miners maintained control throughout in claiming the three-set win. Lauren Reiger and Dooley paced the offense with nine kills apiece.

The Gorillas will return to action Saturday (Sept. 9) at Noon against Christian Brothers. The Gorillas will complete the weekend action with a 3 p.m. match against an opponent to be determined in bracket play.
