Box Score 2 ROLLA, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches
Friday (Sept. 8) at the Missouri University of Science & Technology Middle of Everywhere Classic.
The Gorillas dropped a 3-0 decision to Ashland University (25-21, 20-25, 25-21, 25-19) and Pitt State fell to the host school, Missouri S&T, 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-21).
Against Ashland, the first set was a back and forth offensive battle with a pair of lead changes and five ties in the set. The Eagles eventually pulled away for the 25-21 due to Gorillas hitting errors.
Pitt State battled back in the second set to build a 17-13 lead and ultimately claim a 25-20 win.
Noelle Dooley led the offensive with six kills in the third set but it was not enough as Ashland claimed a 25-21 win. The Eagles jumped ahead early in the fourth set and road the early momentum to a 25-19 win to take the match.
In the final match of the day, the Miners maintained control throughout in claiming the three-set win. Lauren Reiger and Dooley paced the offense with nine kills apiece.
The Gorillas will return to action
Saturday (
Sept. 9) at
Noon against Christian Brothers. The Gorillas will complete the weekend action with a
3 p.m. match against an opponent to be determined in bracket play.
