Gorillas Face Road Matches Against MSSU, SBU

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University volleyball team will travel for a pair of MIAA road matches Friday and Saturday (Oct. 19-20). The Gorillas will battle Missouri Southern State University Friday at Joplin, Mo., at 6 p.m. and then take on Southwest Baptist University Saturday at Bolivar, Mo., at 7 p.m.
 
Scouting the Gorillas
Pitt State is 15-10 overall and 4-8 in MIAA playing heading into the weekend action. The Gorillas are seeking to halt a six-match losing streak when they face the Lions Friday.
 
Pitt State dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 15 ranked University of Central Oklahoma in its last action Tuesday at Edmond, Okla.

Offensively, senior rightside hitter Lauren Regier leads the squad with 268 kills (2.91 kps) followed closely by freshman outside hitter Meg Auten with 173 kills (2.34 kps).
 
Two setters contribute to the Gorillas offense: freshman Brianna Richard averages 4.04 assists per set, while sophomore Camryn Blanton averages 8.90 assists per set.
 
Junior defensive specialist Lauren Dunn averages 4.36 digs per set, while sophomore middle blocker Emily Regier averages 0.98 blocks per set.

Scouting the Opposition
MSSU enters Friday's action at 3-19 overall and 3-9 in MIAA play.

Two outside hitters lead the Lions offense with sophomore Janelle Brehm averaging 2.79 kills per set followed by freshman Shaylon Sharp (1.89 kps). MSSU's defensive leaders are sophomore defensive specialist Morgan Nash with 300 digs (4.05 dps) and junior middle blocker Alicia Pickett with 0.81 blocks per set.

SBU is 4-21 overall and 0-12 in the MIAA entering a Friday home match against Central Oklahoma.

Junior middle hitter Greyson Roster leads the team with 190 kills (2.16 kps) and sophomore middle blocker Delanie Tipton chips in with 1.81 kills per set and 0.94 blocks per set. Defensive specialist Bailey Baumann contributes 3.76 digs per set.

Following the weekend matchups, Pitt State will host a host a pair of MIAA contests next weekend against Fort Hays State University and the University of Nebraska-Kearney at John Lance Arena.
