PITTSBURG -- Tristan Gegg scored a team-leading 17 points to lead three Gorillas in double figures as the Pittsburg State University women's basketball team defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State University, 71-56, Friday (Nov. 16).
Pitt State improved to 2-1 on the young season in front of a partisan crowd of 2,874 fans at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court. SOSU dropped to 1-1 with the loss.
Gegg made five of 10 shots overall and three of six 3-point attempts to pace Pitt State's offense. Athena Alvarado added 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds, while Kaylee DaMitz added 10 points and seven boards.
The Gorillas limited the Savage Storm to 29 percent shooting in the game as SOSU made just 20 of 69 shots in the contest. Katie Webb led all scorers with 22 points for the Savage Storm. Katie Branam also scored in double figures with 11 points.
Pitt State will return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 17) when the Gorillas host the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith.
