DES MOINES, Iowa — The Pittsburg State University women's basketball team dropped a 92-55 decision to Drake University in the Gorillas exhibition game opener for the 2018-19 campaign Saturday (Nov. 3).
Drake, the defending Missouri Valley Conference champion, rushed out to a 19-4 lead to start the game and rode the early momentum to the victory.
Sophomore guard Maya Williams and freshman guard Tristan Gegg scored 13 points apiece to pace the Gorillas. Gegg made five of 10 shots from the floor, including three 3-pointers, in her collegiate debut. Williams added a team-leading seven rebounds for Pitt State.
Freshman guard Kaylee DaMitz added eight points in her first game for the Gorillas, while senior guard Shelby Lopez chipped in with seven points.
Drake got a game-high 18 points from Sara Rhine as she led four Bulldogs in double figures.
Pitt State will wrap up exhibition game action Monday (Nov. 5) when the Gorillas travel to Manhattan, Kan., to face Kansas State University at 7 p.m. (CST) at Bramlage Coliseum.
