LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Grant Lozoya scored a career-high 38 points to spark the Pittsburg State University men's basketball team to an 89-76 victory over the University of Indianapolis Monday (Dec. 17) at the Las Vegas Hoopla.
Lozoya made 13 of 23 shots from the field, including three 3-pointers, and nine of nine free throw attempts to post the third-highest single game scoring total since the Gorillas joined the NCAA Division II ranks in 1990.
The Gorillas (8-1), who posted their eighth consecutive win on the season, trailed 41-38 at halftime before outscoring the Greyhounds (6-3), who dropped their third straight decision, 51-35 in the second half.
Christian Edmondson also scored a career-best 11 points, all in the second half, for Pitt State. Edmondson made five of six shots from the floor as the Gorillas turned in a 50 percent shooting clip on the night (33-66).
Donovan Franklin also added 16 points and a team-leading seven rebounds as the Gorillas owned a 45-32 advantage on the glass against the Greyhounds, who shot 42 percent from the field in the contest (26-62).
Jesse Kempson finished with a double-double for UIndy, scoring 19 points and pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds. Jimmy King (15), C.J. Hardaway (13), Trevor Lakes (13) and Marcus Latham (10) also scored in double figures for UIndy.
Pitt State will wrap up action at the Las Vegas Hoopla with a 10 p.m. (CST) match-up against No. 13 ranked West Texas A&M University. The Buffs (11-2) claimed a 98-93 overtime victory over MIAA rival Washburn University earlier in the day Monday.
