Gorillas Ride Balanced Attack to 80-65 Win Over Tabor


PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University women's basketball team placed five players in double figure scoring as the Gorillas claimed an 80-65 victory over Tabor College Friday (Dec. 28) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.

Maya Williams posted game highs of 16 points and nine rebounds to help the Gorillas improve to 9-1 on the season. Shelby Lopez added 13 points, while Megan Scott came off the bench to contribute 12 points and seven rebounds.

Meghan Maher added 11 points, knocking down three 3-point field goals. Tristan Gegg also finished with 10 points.

The Gorillas shot 46.8 percent from the field in the game, making 29 of 62 shots overall. Pitt State also generated 18 points at the free throw line in the contest. The Gorillas owned a 39-31 rebounding advantage, including a +6 margin (12-6) on the offensie glass.

Taylor Deniston was the only Bluejay player to finish in double figures with 11 points. Morgan Ediger and Ashton Wiebe added eight points apiece.

The Gorillas will close out the calendar year, and the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 1 p.m. home game against Bethel College Monday (Dec. 31).
