JOPLIN, Mo. — The Missouri Southern State University men's basketball team converted seven of eight free throws in the game's final 52 seconds to hold off Pittsburg State University for a 92-88 victory Tuesday (Feb. 20) at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
The Lions (19-8, 14-4 MIAA) got a team-leading 28 points from C.J. Carr in the win. Enis Memic added 18 points and Elyjah Clark finished with 17 points. MSSU shot 49.2 percent from the field int he game (31-63), including 62.1 percent in the second half (18-29).
The Gorillas (15-12, 8-10 MIAA) rushed out to an early 11-2 lead and Pitt State never trailed until MSSU climbed back for a 45-43 advantage with 17:43 remaining in the game. From there, the game saw 10 more lead changes down the stretch.
Xavier Adams led all scorers with 30 points for the Gorillas. He made 10 of 16 shots from the floor, including six 3-pointers. Donovan Franklin added 19 points, while Demetrius Levarity and Grant Lozoya finished with 12 apiece.
