PITTSBURG — Tanner Cairns and Mason LeClair combined to limit the Pittsburg State University baseball team to five hits as visiting Emporia State University defeated the Gorillas, 3-1, in the MIAA series finale Saturday (Mar. 10) at Al Ortolani Field.
ESU (10-9, 4-5 MIAA) scored a pair of unearned runs in the third inning to grab an early lead and the Hornets made the lead stand up.
Colton Pogue belted a solo home run for the Gorillas' lone run of the game. Pitt State (15-6, 7-2 MIAA) stranded nine base runners in the contest.
ESU foiled a strong pitching performance by PSU starter Brendan Stanek (2-3). Stanek allowed just eight hits in 8.0 innings of work. He walked one and struck out three batters.
