ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University baseball team plated a pair of runs in the top of the 11th inning to break a 2-2 tie and claim a 4-2 victory over Missouri Western State University Friday (Mar. 23).
The Gorillas (19-9, 11-5) swept the three-game MIAA series from the Griffons (14-12, 7-6 MIAA) with the victory.
John Oliver started the 11th inning with a base hit and Dallas Reed advanced him to second on a sacrifice bunt. Hunter Clanin then delivered the go-ahead base hit off reliever Preston Bailey and advanced to second base on a throwing error. Cody White then singled Clanin home with an insurance run.
White (1-0) limited MWSU to one hit over the final 2 2/3 innings of work to earn the victory.
Joven Afenir led the Pitt STate offense with a 3-for-4 hitting day.
