Gorillas Continue Home Stand Against No. 15 UCO

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University volleyball team will return to action Tuesday (Sept. 18) when the Gorillas will host No. 15 University of Central Oklahoma at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court. First serve is set for 6 p.m. 
  
Scouting the Gorillas
Pitt State is 13-2 overall and 2-0 in MIAA play.  The Gorillas recorded a pair of home match victories over Missouri Southern State University (3-0) Friday (Sept. 14), and Southwest Baptist University (3-1) Saturday (Sept. 15). Pitt State will look to extend their six-match winning streak.
 
Senior rightside hitter Lauren Regier has compiled a team-leading 165 kills (3.06 kps) on the season while freshman outside hitter Meg Auten has added 106 kills (2.59 kps).
 
Sophomore middle blocker Emily Regier has contributed 0.85 blocks per set to lead the team at the net and junior defensive specialist Lauren Dunn has added 4.56 digs per set to help pace the Pitt State defense.
 
The Opponent:
UCO is 14-2 overall and 2-0 in the MIAA. The Bronchos, who have won 13 straight matches, opened conference action last week with home wins over and SBU (3-0) and MSSU (3-0). UCO has posted straight-set wins in 11 of its last 12 matches on the year.
 
Offensively senior outside hitter Taylor Bevis leads the Bronchos with 3.86 kills per set while sophomore outside hitter Haley Deschenes adds 2.42 kills per set. Junior defensive specialist Dominique Lipari averages 5.10 digs per set. Senior Jordan Spence (1.02 bps) and sophomore Malia Kaaiohelo (0.70 bps) lead the Bronchos at the net.

Pitt State will make its MIAA road debut Friday (Sept. 21) when the Gorillas travel to Hays, Kan., to face Fort Hays State University at 6 p.m. Pitt State will finish the weekend at Kearney, Neb., with a 3 p.m. match Saturday (Sept. 22) against No. 1 ranked University of Nebraska-Kearney.
