Gorillas Return Home for Weekend Volleyball Action

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University volleyball team will return to John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court to host a pair of MIAA matches Friday and Saturday (Sept. 28-29).
 
The Gorillas will battle Emporia State University Friday at 6 p.m. and then take on No. 13 Washburn University Saturday at 2 p.m.
 
Scouting the Gorillas
Pitt State is 14-4 overall and 3-2 in MIAA playing heading into the weekend action. Pitt State knocked off MIAA rival Fort Hays State University (3-1) last Friday (Sept. 21) and dropped a 3-0 decision against No. 6 University of Nebraska-Kearney the next day (Sept. 22). 

Offensively, senior rightside hitter Lauren Regier leads the squad in conference play with 2.73 kills per set followed closely by freshman middle hitter Morgan Henning with 2.16 kills per set.
 
Sophomore setter Camryn Blanton has collected 115 assists in conference play, averaging 8.85 assists per set while freshman Brianna Richard is adding 3.68 assists per set.
 
Junior defensive specialist Lauren Dunn averages 5.26 digs per set in conference play to pace the Pitt State defense, while sophomore middle blocker Emily Regier averages 1.26 blocks per set.

Scouting the Opposition
ESU enters Friday's matchup at 7-10 overall and 2-3 in the MIAA play.

Senior middle blocker Tatum Graves leads the team with 196 kills (2.97 kps) and 1.02 blocks per set, while junior setter Yuchen Du chips in with 2.31 kills per set. Defensive specialist Allie Maloney contributes 4.53 digs per set.
 
WU is 17-0 overall and 5-0 in the MIAA entering a Friday road match against the University of Central Oklahoma

Sophomore middle hitter Allison Maxwell leads the offense averaging 3.02 kills per set with Erica Montgomery recording 2.91 kills per set. The Ichabods' defensive leaders are sophomore defensive specialist Faith Rottinghaus with 280 digs (4.83 dps) and senior middle hitter Makayla Maxwell with 0.96 blocks per set.
