Gorillas Face Road Test Against Rockhurst Tuesday

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University volleyball team will return to action Tuesday (Sept. 4) when the Gorillas travel to Kansas City, Mo., to face Rockhurst University at 7 p.m.

Pitt State enters Tuesday's action with a 7-1 overall record, after posting a 3-1 record in the Gorillas Classic last weekend. The Gorillas opened the year 7-0 before dropping a 3-1 decision to Northwestern Oklahoma State University Saturday (Sept. 1). Pitt State enjoyed its first 7-0 start to a season since the 2007 campaign.

Offensively, senior rightside hitter Lauren Regier leads the squad with 95 kills (3.39 kps) followed closely by freshman outside hitter Meg Auten with 83 kills (2.96 kps). Regier was named the tournament MVP last weekend, compiling double-digit kills in three of Pitt State's four matches.
 
Sophomore setter Camryn Blanton has collected 282 assists on the season, averaging 10.07 assists per set.
 
Junior defensive specialist Lauren Dunn helps pace the Pitt State defense with 145 digs (5.18 dps), while senior middle blocker Taylor Unke averages 0.75 blocks per set.
 
Scouting the Opposition
Rockhurst is 7-1 overall on the young season. Junior outside hitter Alyssa Woodman leads the Hawks offense averaging 3.59 kills per set. Rockhurst's defensive leaders are senior defensive specialist Kalie Arnold with 135 digs (4.22 dps) and senior middle blocker Emily Matio (0.97 blocks per set).

Following the mid-week matchup, Pitt State will travel to Edmond, Okla., to compete in the two-day GAC/MIAA Regional Crossover, Sept. 7-8.
