Gorillas Pull Away in Fourth Quarter For 88-63 Win


PITTSBURG -- Sydney Tracy scored a season-high 17 points, including 11 in the second half, as the Pittsburg State University women's basketball team pulled away for an 88-63 win over Southwest Baptist University Wednesday (Jan. 9) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.

The Gorillas (12-2, 4-1 MIAA) shot 53 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes of play, making 18 of 34 shots. Pitt State led 40-29 at halftime against the Bearcats (4-10, 0-5 MIAA).

Shelby Lopez and Maya Williams added 14 points apiece for the Gorillas, while Athena Alvarado contributed eight points and a game-high 13 rebounds and four blocked shots. Kaylee DaMitz also chipped in with seven points while dishing out a game-high eight assists. Sydnee Crain also finished with seven points.

SBU got a game-high 20 points from Caylee Richardson. Morgan Henderson also scored in double figures with 10 points.

The Gorillas will return to action Saturday (Jan 12) when they host MIAA rival University of Central Missouri at 1:30 p.m. (CST).
