WICHITA, Kan.—The Pittsburg State University Gorillas Volleyball team came into Fugate Gymnasium and stumbled. Down two sets to none, it seemed like they wouldn't be able to snap a three-game losing streak, however they rallied back and won the final three sets on Tuesday night for the win.
Pitt State defeated the Newman Jets in five sets. With the win the Gorillas move to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) portion of the schedule. The Jets fall to 0-14 on the season and 0-5 in the MIAA.
On Tuesday, the Gorillas won by set scores of 20-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-14 and 15-6.
The first set saw the Gorillas come out flat. They trailed at one point in the set, 15-1. With no timeouts remaining, the Gorillas rallied back and had a 9-2 run to pull within seven at 17-10. The Jets kept the pressure on as they won the second set by the same score of 25-20. The Gorillas came out fighting in the third set to keep the match alive. They then dominated the fourth and fifth set to get the win.
