JOPLIN, Mo.—After splitting a weekend series at home, the Pittsburg State University Volleyball will make the short drive over the state line to take on Missouri Southern for a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) match on Tuesday night.
Scouting the Gorillas
- The Gorillas are coming off a 1-1 Friday-Saturday split last week and sit at 9-8 overall and 4-4 in the MIAA.
- The Gorillas overcame had two hard fought battles with a five-set win over Emporia State on Friday before keeping pacing and eventually falling and three sets to No. 5 Washburn on Saturday.
- Head Coach Jen Gomez, who is in her third season at the helm, enters the match with a 40-70 record.
- The Gorillas are hitting .186 on the season while holding opponents to a .181 attacking percentage.
- Senior outside hitter Erika Ivkov (Ward, Colo.) leads Pitt State with 19 service aces and 196 kills, both are team-highs.
Scouting the Lions
- The Lions (9-9, 2-6 MIAA) are coming off a 1-1 week that saw Southern nearly knock off fifth-ranked Washburn, then sweep Emporia State.
- Morgan Nash has four triple-doubles this season as she currently ranks fourth nationally in that category.
- Janelle Brehm is 12th nationally in total attacks, while leading the MIAA and Alicia Pickett leads the league in total blocks. Brehm is second in the league in total kills and attacks per set, while Pickett ranks third in blocks per set. Nash is second in the MIAA in aces.
History against the Lions
- The Lions and Gorillas have met once already this season back on Sept. 17 when the Gorillas won the match at home in John Lance Arena in four sets.
- The Gorillas are on a four match winning streak against the Lions.
- Pitt State swept both of last year's matches.
