Jayhawks Pull Away For 102-42 Exhibition Win Over Gorillas

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas used a 14-0 run to break open an early six-point game en route to a 102-42 exhibition game victory over Pittsburg State University Thursday (Oct. 31) at Allen Fieldhouse.

Ochai Agbaji led three KU players in double figures with 19 points, while Grant Harding and Drew Roelfs scored nine points apiece for Pitt State.

KU led 10-4 with 16:25 to play in the first half, but scored 14 straight points to extend its margin to 24-4 on Udoka Azubuike's dunk with 13:21 remaining in the first period. The Gorillas, who shot just 28.1 percent from the floor in the first half (9-32), never got any closer than 18 points of the Jayhawks the remainder of the first half.

KU opened the second half on another 13-0 run to push its margin to 62-22.

David McCormack added 13 points for the Jayhawks, while Devon Dotson finished with 12 points and seven assists. Azubuike added eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds while Silvio DeSousa added nine points and 10 rebounds.

The Gorillas shot just 27.1 percent from the field for the game, making 16 of 59 shots. Harding and Roelfs made three 3-pointers apiece for Pitt State. Dejon Waters Jr. added seven points, all in the first half. Christian Edmondson and Harding paced the Gorillas with six rebounds apiece.

Pitt State will open regular season action next Friday (Nov. 8) when the Gorillas take part in the eight-team Central Region Challenge at Municipal Auditorium at Kansas City, Mo. Pitt State will take on Upper Iowa University Friday at 4:30 p.m. and the University of Sioux Falls Saturday (Nov. 9) at 4:30 p.m.
