Gorillas Senior Day Match Set for Saturday

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State volleyball team will play its final home match Saturday (Nov. 2) in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) action when the Gorillas entertain Missouri Western State University. First serve for the Senior Day match is scheduled for 6 p.m. (CDT) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.

Scouting the Gorillas
The Gorillas are coming off a sweep of Newman Tuesday (Oct. 29). Pitt State enters Saturday's action with a 12-12 record and a 7-8 MIAA mark. Pitt State currently sits in sixth place in the MIAA standings with just five regular season matches remaining. The top eight teams in the standings qualify for the 2019 MIAA Championship Tournament which is scheduled for Nov. 21-23 at Hy-Vee Arena at Kansas City, Mo.

The Gorillas are attacking at a .178 clip while opponents are just a fraction higher at .184. The Gorillas have four players with triple digit kills on the season, however, Erika Ivkov (258), Morgan Henning (242) and Meg Auten (204) have more than 200 kills on the season. Ivkov is strong from the service line as well as she has posted 27 aces on the season. Meanwhile, libero Marissa Bates has tallied 348 digs this season and Brianna Richard has 522 assists on the campaign.

Scouting the Griffons
The Griffons enter the match with a 12-10 overall record and a 6-8 MIAA slate. MWSU is coming off a three-set sweep at the hands of No. 9 University of Central Missouri on Tuesday (Oct. 29). The Griffons are attacking .217 on the season while opponents have are hitting at a .190 clip. Ali Tauchen was the top attacker with 260 kills.

Earlier Meeting
The two teams met back on Oct. 3 with the Gorillas being swept by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-15. Morgan Henning paced the Gorillas in that match with 12 kills.

Up Next
The Gorillas will hit the road for the final four matches of the season. Pitt State will take on Washburn next Friday (Nov. 8) and Emporia State on Saturday (Nov. 9). First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
