KEARNEY, Neb.—The Pittsburg State University volleyball team wrapped up the regular season on Saturday night with a bright spot by fighting to five sets, however, they were defeated by the No. 2 ranked team in this week's AVCA/NCAA Division II poll, University of Nebraska-Kearney. The Lopers defeated the Gorillas with scores of 25-14, 25-21, 20-25, 23-25 and 15--8.

The Lopers made easy work of the first two sets before the Gorillas rallied and behind three service aces, won the set 25-20. Pitt State took an early lead in the fourth set but an 8-1 run in the middle of the set made things interesting but the Gorillas capitalized on kills from Hope White and Meg Auten to take the fourth set. 25-23.

With the loss the Gorillas fall to 14-15 overall and 9-11 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA). The Lopers, who clinched the MIAA regular season title outright last night, are now 30-0 on the season and 20-0 on the regular season.

In the fifth set, the Gorillas led early, however, a huge 9-1 run by the Lopers to end the match doomed the Gorillas.

In the match the Gorillas hit .193 with Meg Auten firing 22 kills in the game while Morgan Henning had 11 and three aces. Brianna Richard led the pace on aces with four in the game.

The Gorillas will turn their attention to the MIAA Tournament next week. The single-elimination tournament is set to commence on Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Hy-Vee Arena in Kansas City, Mo. The Gorillas appear to be the No. 7 seed and will take on the No. 2 seeded Washburn Ichabods at noon.
