PITTSBURG -- The Henderson State University men's basketball team scored seven of the game's final eight points to pull away for an 88-78 road win over Pittsburg State University Wednesday (Dec. 18) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
Dejon Waters Jr. scored a game-high 21 points to lead four Gorillas in double figures in the contest. Waters connected on five of Pitt State's 10 3-point field goals in the contest. Marcel Cherry added 16 points, while A.J. Walker and Jah-Kobe Womack chipped in with 14 points apiece. Walker made his season debut for the Gorillas (4-4).
HSU (7-3) got a team-leading 16 points from Chris Parker while Anthony Lupardus (15), Raekwon Rogers (11) and Mike Fofana (10) also scored in double figures.
Pitt State made 22 of 27 free throws in the contest to overcome a 35.9 percent shooting night from the field (23-64). The Gorillas also grabbed 20 offensive rebounds.
Pitt State will travel to Las Vegas, Nev., to compete in the D2 Holiday Hoops Classic Dec. 21-22.Â
