JOPLIN, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern State University men's basketball team withstood a strong second-half run by Pittsburg State University to pull away for a 95-64 victory Tuesday (Dec. 3) at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
The 15th ranked Lions (6-1, 1-0 MIAA) used a 21-3 run to break open a 10-point game. The Gorillas (4-2, 0-1 MIAA) had capitalized on a 12-1 run to pull within 10 points, 62-52, with 9:56 to play in the game.
Marcel Cherry scored a career high 30 points to pace Pitt State. Cherry connected on 12 of 17 shots from the floor, including five 3-pointers. Jah-Kobe Womack and Dejon Waters Jr. added 10 points apiece for the Gorillas.
Cam Martin paced the Lions with a game high 23 points and 17 rebounds. Kinzer Lambert added 15 points for MSSU.
Pitt State will return to action Thursday (Dec. 5) when the Gorillas host MIAA rival Washburn University at 7:30 p.m. (CST).
