HAYS, Kan. -- The Fort Hays State University men's basketball team outscored Pittsburg State University, 28-11, in the game's final 11:30 to pull away for a 71-61 home win Saturday (Mar. 2) at Gross Memorial Coliseum in the regular season finale for both squads.
The win helped the Tigers improve to 18-10 overall and 12-7 in MIAA action, while the Gorillas dropped to 16-12 overall and 9-10 in the MIAA.
Brady Werth posted a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds to lead FHSU. Trey O'Neil also scored 13 points for the Tigers.
Pitt State shot 36.5 percent from the field (23-63), while converting nine 3-pointers in the contest.
Donovan Franklin had a team-high 11 points to pace the Pitt State offense, while three Gorillas had nine points apiece: Demetrius Levarity, A.J. Walker and Grant Lozoya. Christian Edmondson just missed a double-double with eight points and a team-leading 10 rebounds.
The Gorillas will advance to the 2019 MIAA Postseason Tournament at Kansas City, Mo., next week. The tournament bracket will be announced later tonight.
