Gorillas Sweep Twinbill From Bearcats

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University softball team swept a doubleheader from Northwest Missouri State University Friday (Apr. 12) at the PSU Softball Complex. The Gorillas defeated the Bearcats, 8-4, and 7-4.

Pitt State (21-22, 9-9 MIAA) hit six home runs in game one to pull out the win from Northwest Missouri (9-20, 4-12 MIAA).

Madison Wegner and Makenzie Goswick both went 2-for-3 with two home runs and two runs scored while Kaity Kukowski and Kala Holder also belted a single home run in the contest.

In game two, Pitt State overcame a three run deficit by scoring three runs in the third inning followed by a single run in the fourth and three in the sixth inning. Keelah Griffith and Madison Wegner went 2-for-3 with two runs scored to pace the Gorillas offense.

Halle Brin (12-11) pitched her fifth complete game of the season in game one and recorded seven strikeouts. She picked up her second victory of the day after pitching 2 2/3 innings of relief work, allowing only two hits and one run.
 
Pitt State will return to action Saturday (Apr. 13) for an MIAA doubleheader against Missouri Western State University at the PSU Softball Complex. First pitch has been moved up to 10 a.m. (CDT) due to the threat of afternoon rain showers.
