SPRINGDALE, Ark.-- John Oliver belted a grand slam home run with one out in the fifth inning to break a 3-3 tie and help lift the Pittsburg State University baseball team to a 9-3 win over Arkansas Tech University at Arvest Ballpark Tuesday (Apr. 16).
Oliver drove in five runs in the game, adding a first-inning sacrifice fly.
Pitt State (21-17) also plated a pair of runs in the second inning and tacked on two insurance runs in the eighth inning.
Kory Haught (1-1) earned the win tossing a pair of scoreless innings in relief of starter Justin Root. Tyler Clark, Shamus Kearney and Connor Lungwitz also helped blank the Wonder Boys (27-16) over the final six innings.
The Gorillas will return to Al Ortolani Field to open a three-game MIAA series against Missouri Western State University Thursday through Saturday (Apr. 18-20).
