Gorillas Sweep Twinbill From Riverhawks

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University softball team swept a doubleheader from Northeastern State University Friday (Apr. 26) at the Gene Bicknell Sports Complex. The Gorillas defeated the Riverhawks, 2-1, and 5-4 (10 innings).

Pitt State improved to 25-24 overall and 13-11 in MIAA action, while Northeastern State dropped to 24-25 overall and 12-12 in MIAA play.

In game one, Brittanee Knepper both went 2-for-2 with one RBI and the walk-off single to give the Gorillas the win. Mackenzie Goswick belted a single home run in the contest.

In the nightcap, Pitt State overcame an early 2-1 Lion lead by scoring two runs in the sixth inning to tie the game up heading into the seventh inning. Kaity Kukowski went 2-for-4 with two RBI's and delivered the walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to secure the sweep for the Gorillas.  

Halle Brin (15-12) pitched her seventh complete game of the season in game one and recorded six strikeouts. She picked up her second victory of the day after pitching five innings of relief work, allowing only three hits.

Pitt State will return to action Saturday (Apr. 27) for an MIAA doubleheader against the University of Central Oklahoma at the Gene Bicknell Complex. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. (CDT).
