PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team scored six runs in the fifth inning to break open a 2-2 team and propel the Gorillas to an 11-6 victory over Northeastern State University Friday (Apr. 5) at Al Ortolani Field.
The Gorillas (15-16, 9-10 MIAA) plated six runs on three hits and capitalized on three errors by the RiverHawks (10-23 7-12 MIAA) in the pivotal fifth frame
John Oliver drove in five runs in the contest. He belted a two-run home run that staked Pitt State to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. He added a sacrifice fly in the fith, an RBI single in the sixth and a bases loaded walk in the seventh.
Clint Allen also went 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBIs.
Brad Kinsey (5-1) allowed five runs in 6.0 innings of work. He issued two walks hit a batter and registered seven strikeouts. Justin Root allowed one run in two innings of relief work and Dante Richardson recorded the final three outs for the Gorillas.
Pitt State and NSU will continue the three-game MIAA series with a 2 p.m. contest Saturday (Apr. 6).
