Gorillas to Host Lions on Tuesday

PITTSBURG, Kan.—The first Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) conference game for the Pittsburg State University Gorillas will be on Tuesday here at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Arena when they host Missouri Southern State University at 6 p.m.
 
Scouting the Gorillas
  • Pitt State enters with a 5-3 overall record and are a perfect 4-0 on their own court. They opened the season with a sweep of the 2019 Gorilla Classic Tournament. Last week, the Gorillas went 1-3 in the 2019 Chap Classic in Lubbock, Texas. Their lone win of the tournament was a five-set thriller over Black Hills State.
  • During the weekend, senior outside hitter Erika Ivkov paced the Gorillas with 42 kills while sophomore Morgan Henning tallied 37 and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
  • Last season, Pitt State finished 7-11 in the MIAA and had two three-set sweeps over Missouri Southern. The Gorillas are on a three-game winning streak over the Lions.

 Scouting the Lions
  • Missouri Southern enters with a 6-3 overall record. They opened the season by going 3-1 at their home tournament, defeated Drury in a five-set thriller before splitting the Dallas Baptist Tournament.
  • The Lions are led by Janelle Brehm who has 123 kills (3.15 per set).

  • The Gorillas will continue the MIAA slate of their schedule when they hit the road on Friday. The Gorillas will travel to Edmond, Oklahoma to take on Central Oklahoma for a 6 p.m. tilt.
