Gorillas Hold Off Hillcats, 91-73


PITTSBURG -- Kaylee DaMitz and Tristan Gegg combined for 45 points and the Pittsburg State University women's basketball team held off Rogers State University, 91-73, Wednesday (Jan. 29) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.

Pitt State (11-7, 7-3 MIAA) built a 24-point third quarter lead against RSU (3-18, 1-11 MIAA) only to see the Hillcats battled back to trail by just nine, 78-69, with 4:33 to play in the game. The Gorillas closed out the contest on a 13-4 run to end the threat.

DaMitz finished the game with 24 points, six rebounds and eight assists, while Gegg added 21 points and eight rebounds. Meghan Maher and Sydnee Crain added 11 points apiece. 

The Gorillas converted 21 of 23 free throws in the game with DaMitz a perfect 14-for-14.

Lilly Garner paced the Hillcats with 26 points, while Alicia Brown (15) and Samariah Thompson (13) also finished in double figures.

Pitt State will close out a three-game homestand with a 1:30 p.m. (CST) game Saturday (Feb. 1) against Northeastern State University.
