KEARNEY, Neb. -- Kaylee DaMitz scored a career high 33 points to lead the Pittsburg State University women's basketball team to an 88-74 road win over the University of Nebraska-Kearney Saturday (Jan. 4) at the Health & Sport Center.
The Gorillas (7-4, 3-0 MIAA) built a 39-26 halftime lead against the Lopers (12-2, 1-2 MIAA) and then held off the host team in the final 20 minutes of play.
DaMitz made 10 of 14 shots from the field and she added 12 of 14 free throws in the contest. Maya Williams added 18 points and Athena Alvarado posted a double double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Pitt State shot 52.5 percent from the field making 31 of 59 shots in the game. The Gorillas also converted 22 of 26 free throws in the contest.
UNK got a team-leading 24 points from Haley Simental.
Pitt State will continue its two-game road swing with a 5:30 p.m. match-up against No. 16 ranked Fort Hays State University Monday (Jan. 6). The Lady TIgers defeated Missouri Southern State University, 75-59, Saturday.
