PITTSBURG -- Maya Buckhanon and Samariah Thompson combined for 43 points to lead Rogers State University to an 80-76 victory over Pittsburg State University Thursday (Dec. 3) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
The Hillcats (1-2, 1-2 MIAA) outscored the Gorillas (1-3, 1-3 MIAA), 7-4, in the final 2:02 of the game to hold off a Pitt State comeback attempt. RSU led by as many as 10 points, 46-36, with 7:15 remaining in the third quarter.
The Gorillas got a game high 24 points from Tristan Gegg while Kaylee DaMitz (15), Maya Willias (13) and Dana Johnson (10) also scored in double figures for Pitt State.
Buckhanon led RSU with 22 points and a game high nine rebounds, while Thompson finished with 21 points and six assists. Bailey Kliewer also finished with 14 points for the Hillcats.
Pitt State will return to action Saturday (Dec. 5) when the Gorillas entertain MIAA rival Northeastern State University at 1:30 p.m. (CST).
