EMPORIA, Kan. -- Marcel Cherry and Jah-Kobe Womack hit 3-point field goals on consecutive possessions in the game's final 90 seconds to help lift the Pittsburg State University men's basketball team to a 77-74 road win against Emporia State University Thursday (Feb. 6) at William L. White Auditorium.
Cherry, who fired in a game high 27 points, buried a 3-pointer with 1:29 to play in the game to break a 7 1-71 tie and give Pitt State (9-12, 5-7 MIAA) a 74-71 lead. Following an ESU miss, Womack added a 3-pointer with 56 seconds to play to give the Gorillas a six-point cushion.
Cherry made 10 of 15 shots from the floor in the game, including six of 10 3-pointers. Antonio GIvens II added 13 points and Womack finished with 11. The Gorillas shot 48.1 percent from the field in the game, making 26 of 54 shots. Pitt State outscored ESU (10-11, 4-8 MIAA), 15-7, at the free throw line in the contest.
