LIBERTY, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University baseball team ued a five-run seventh inning to break open a one-run game and pull away for a 7-3 victory over William Jewell College Wednesday (Mar. 11).
The Gorillas (14-8) led 1-0 against the Cardinals (8-7) before plating five runs on three hits and three walks in the pivotal frame. Ty Herrenbruck had a two-run single and Chaz Burgess added a two-run double in the inning. Quinn Reasoner also had an RBI infield hit in the frame. Burgess scored three times in the game.
Zach Curry (2-1) earned the victory in the contest. Â He scattered three hits in 3.0 innings of work on the mound. Five Pitt State relievers combined to hold off WJC over the final six innings of work on the mound. Tanner Lane worked two scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts, while Jarret Dotson and Nick Brown also tossed scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Pitt State will travel to Topeka to open a three-game MIAA weekend series against Washburn University Friday (Mar. 12).
