KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Fort Hays State University women's basketball team pulled away in the fourth quarter to break open and back and forth game and claim a 69-53 victory over Pittsburg State University in the quarterfinals of the 2020 MIAA Postseason Tournament Friday (Mar. 6) at Municipal Auditorium.
The No. 5 seed Lady Tigers (23-6) advance to the tournament semifinals Saturday (Mar. 7) where they'll meet top-seeded University of Central Missouri. The Gorillas end their season with a 17-11 overall record.
Kaylee DaMitz scored a game high 20 points to pace Pitt State, while Maya Williams added 12 points and nine rebounds. Sydnee Crain chipped in with nine points for the Gorillas.
Pitt State trailed by 10 points in the first half but battled back to lead by three points midway through the third quarter, 38-35, following a three-point play by Williams.
Kacey Kennett led the Lady Tigers with 19 points, while Whitney Randall added 16 points.
