Gorillas Roll to 59-7 Homecoming Victory Over Blue Tigers


PITTSBURG —The Pittsburg State University football team scored the game's first 24 points and rolled to a 59-7 Homecoming victory over Lincoln University Saturday (Oct. 16).

Mak Sexton passed for 151 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for a third score before exiting the game following three series of action for the Gorillas (5-2, 5-2 MIAA). He completed five of seven passes, including touchdown connections of 29 yards to Bryce Murphy and 74 yards to Elijah Harris. Sexton added a 27-yard scoring romp on Pitt State's first offensive series.

Backup quarterback Chad Dodson Jr. also completed eight of 11 passes for 68 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the contest. He tossed a 10-yard TD pass to Harris and added a nine-yard TD pass to tight end Kaizer Newell.

Running backs Noah Hernandez and Adam Albertini added second half scoring runs. Hernandez plowed into the end zone from five yards out on the final play of the third quarter, while Albertini capped the day's scoring with a 52-yard burst with 2:40 to play in the game.

Backup quarterback Matt Harman also chipped in with a one-yard touchdown plunge and kicker Cross Holmes booted a 21-yard field goal in the contest.

Defensively, Kaden Roy made a team-leading seven tackles while linebacker P.J. Sarwinski posted five stops with a quarterback sack and three tackles-for-loss. Cornerback Jordan Hendy and safety Brandon Mlekus each snared interceptions in the game. The Gorillas' Adam Smith also blocked a punt.

The Gorillas limited the Blue Tigers to 229 total yards in the game, including just 92 net passing yards.

Pitt State will travel to St. Joseph, Mo., next Saturday (Oct. 23) to face MIAA rival Missouri Western State University at 4 p.m. (CDT).
