Pitt State Turns Back Baker, 68-50, in Home Opener



PITTSBURG -- Antonio Givens II scored a career high 22 points to help lead the Pittsburg State University men's basketball team to a 68-50 victory over Baker University Saturday (Nov. 27) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.

The Gorillas (1-5) scored the game's first 11 points and led 18-4 on Ryan Pippens layup with 13:32 to play in the first half. The Wildcats battled back to trim the margin to seven points, 39-32, with 15:55 to play in the second half.

Pitt State regained control with a 7-0 burst to stretch the margin back to 14, at 46-32, with 14:30 to play and Baker never got any closer than 12 points of the Gorillas down the stretch.

Givens posted a double double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, both games highs. Cameron Huefner added 15 points and eight rebounds, while Pippens chipped in with 11 points. Iziah James added six points, six rebounds and a game high six assists.

Justin Batts II was the only WIldcats player in double figures with 10 points.

Pitt State will return to action next Wednesday (Dec. 1) when the Gorillas open MIAA play by hosting Newman University.
