PITTSBURG -- The University of Central Missouri men's basketball team scored the game's final seven points to hold off Pittsburg State University for a 66-58 victory Saturday (Dec. 18) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
The Gorillas (3-9, 2-4 MIAA) trailed by 15 points, 52-37, with 8:14 to play in the game before Pitt State stormed back to get within a point of the Mules (6-3, 3-2 MIAA) on Cameron Huefner's three-point play with 1:34 to go.
UCM made five of six free throws down the stretch and added a layup by Ja'Cor Nelson to account for its seven-point spurt as Pitt State missed its only three shots in the game's final 90 seconds.
Gaven Pinkley scored a game high 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Mules. Nelson posted a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Ikenna Okeke also finished in double figures with 10 points.
Huefner and Ryan Pippins scored 10 points apiece to lead the Gorillas. Dejon Waters Jr. and Magic Reliford added eight points each.
