CHOCTAW, Okla. — The Pittsburg State University softball team split a pair of games on opening day of the 2021 season Sunday (Feb. 21) at the University of Central Oklahoma Festival. The Gorillas blanked Chadron State College, 5-0, in game but before Southern Nazarene University shutout Pitt State, 8-0, in game two action.
Pitt State (1-1) will continue action in Oklahoma Monday with a 12:30 p.m. game at Choctaw against East Central (Okla.) University before making a short jaunt to Oklahoma City to face Oklahoma Christian University on its home field at 5:30 p.m.
In game one, Pitt State's Taylor Compton (1-0) limited Chadron State to three hits over six inning of work. She walked one batter and registered nine strikeouts.
Audrey Miller delivered a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning to stake Pitt State to a 3-0 lead and the Gorillas tacked on a pair of unearned runs later in the pivotal frame. Kylee Bohle went 2-for-2 with a triple and a walk in the contest.
In game two, SNU (1-4) scored four runs in the second inning and added four more in the fourth frame as the Crimson Storm won the game by run-rune after five innings of play.
