Tigers Take Final Game of MIAA Series, 11-10

HAYS, Kan. — The Pittsburg State University baseball team dropped an 11-10 decision to Fort Hays State University Sunday (Feb. 28) in the final game of a three-game MIAA series at Larks Park.

The loss snapped Pitt State's (5-1) season-opening five-game winning streak, while FHSU (1-6) claimed its first win of the season.

The Gorillas fell behind 7-2 in the contest before staging a late inning rally, but Pitt State was unable to overcome the early deficit.

Four Pitt State players belted home runs in the game:  Dawson Pomeroy, Ty Henry, Garrett McGowan and Cruz Aranda. Caleb Carr singled home two runs with two outs in the top of the ninth inning  to help the Gorillas trim an 11-8 deficit to a one-run game, but McGowan struck out to end the game.

Aranda went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs, while Carr finished 3-for-6 with two RBIs. Zach Curry (1-1) was charged with the loss. He allowed six runs and eight hits in 5.0 innings of work.
