Gorillas Roll to 48-13 Road Win


TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Mak Sexton passed for 182 yards and a pair of touchdowns to help lead the Pittsburg State University football team to a 48-13 road win over Northeastern State University Saturday (Sept. 18).

The Gorillas (2-1, 2-1 MIAA) 35 unanswered points after leading just 13-6 with 11:04 to play in the second quarter.

Sexton completed 16 of 19 passes in the game with touchdown strikes of five yards to tight end Kaizer Newell and 42 yards to wide receiver Elijah Harris.

Running backs Tyler Adkins and Caleb Lewis added three scores. Adkins carried the ball 11 times for 53 yards and an 11-yard TD plunge. Lewis added eight carries for 40 yards, scoring on runs of 1 and 7 yards.

Back-up quarterback Chad Dodson Jr. added a 51-yard scoring connection to wide receiver Bryce Murphy and running back Noah Hernandez chipped in with a four-yard scoring run.

Defensively, Pitt State limited NSU (1-2, 1-2 MIAA) to 284 total yards in the contest.

Cornerback Dallis Flowers registered his third interception of the season. Safety Brandon Mlekus and linebacker Dubem Okonkwo were credited with five tackles apiece.

Pitt State will return to action next Saturday (Sept. 25) when the Gorillas play host Emporia State University at Brandenburg Field/Carnie Smith Stadium.
