Gorillas Split Games in Day Two of Shark Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – The Pittsburg State University volleyball team finished up its road trip to Florida by splitting a pair of matches against Lynn and Stonehill, 3-1 and 3-0.

The Gorillas started day two of the tournament taking on Lynn. Pitt State started out the match taking set one over the Knights, 26-24. The defending Sunshine State Conference champions bounced back and swept the Gorillas in the next three sets to win the match, 3-1.

Pitt State was led by senior middle hitter Hope White who put up 15 kills and two blocks for the Gorillas. Senior outside hitter Meg Auten also tallied 15 kills as well as 10 digs in the match.

In match two, the Gorillas took on Stonehill. Pitt State would waste no time getting started taking set one, 25-12. The Gorillas would continue the trend and take set two 25-18. After trailing 14-9 early in the third set the Gorillas would mount a comeback and take set three, 25-19.

Auten tallied seven kills and seven digs against the Skyhawks. Sophomore middle hitter Emily Hanenberg notched six kills and five blocks for the Gorillas.

The Gorillas will return to Pittsburg and make their home debut next Thursday (Sept. 9) by hosting the three-day Gorilla Classic. Pitt State will play four matches starting with a battle against Truman, Thursday at 7 p.m. (CDT).
