MARYVILLE, Mo. — The Northwest Missouri State University women's basketball team scored the first six points in the fourth quarter to turn a one-point deficit into a five-point lead as the Bearcats held off Pittsburg State University down the stretch for a 66-62 victory Monday (Jan. 3).
Tristan Gegg scored a game-high 27 points on the strength of 5-for-10 shooting from 3-point range to pace Pitt State (9-5, 4-4 MIAA) in the contest. Sydnee Crain added 16 points and four assists for the Gorillas, who shot 38.6 percent (22-57) from the field in the game.
Mallory McConkey scored a team-leading 16 points for the Bearcats (11-2, 6-1 MIAA). Evelyn Vazquez and Emma Atwood added nine points apiece for NWMSU.
Pitt State will wrap up a three-game road swing Saturday (Jan. 8) when the Gorillas travel to Joplin, Mo., to battle Missouri Southern State University at 1:30 p.m.
