PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University volleyball team fell to No. 8 Washburn University Saturday (Oct. 1) evening, 3-2.Â
The Gorillas got off to a hot start taking the first set 25-15 with seven combined kills from Janae Thurston and Meg Auten. In the second set, the No.8 Ichabods bounced back with a 25-18 win, tying the match up at one. In the third set, the Gorillas grabbed the lead and held on to win the set, 25-21. The Ichabods then took the fourth and fifth sets by scores of 25-17 and 15-12 to take the match.
Auten and Thurston each had double doubles on the evening. Auten posted 13 kills and 14 digs, while Thurston posted 12 kills and 12 digs. Setter Brianna Richard compiled 50 assists on the evening. Libero Marissa Bates contributed 15 digs on the evening. Seville Gates and Phoenix Bailey also posted double-digit kills for the Gorillas.
The Gorillas are back in MIAA action next Tuesday (Oct. 4) as they travel to Joplin, Mo., to take on the Lions of Missouri Southern. The first serve is set for 6 p.m. (CDT). Â Â Â
